Audax acquires a photovoltaic project in the province of Valladolid

  • Located in the town of Ciguñuela, the Zaratán project will be the company’s inaugural facility in Castilla y León.
  • It will produce 12.36 MWp and, during its life cycle, will provide direct and indirect jobs for 80 people and will prevent the atmospheric emission of 3,840 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Audax Renovables (ADX.MC), a vertically integrated Spanish energy group that produces 100% renewable energy and supplies electricity and gas to customers in seven European countries, announces the acquisition of the Zaratán photovoltaic project in the town of Ciguñuela (Valladolid), which already holds all the administrative permits to start construction in early 2022.

The plant will occupy an overall site of 25 hectares, and have total power of 12.36 MWp. It will be the first Audax facility in Castilla y León. During its construction, to which the company expects to allocate between 7 and 8 million euros, Audax hopes to generate around 70 direct and indirect jobs in its immediate surroundings, and, once in operation, it will employ around 10 professionals, also directly and indirectly.

The installation of this plant will generate in Valladolid the equivalent of the energy consumption of almost 5,500 homes and around 17,000 people, and its commitment to clean energy will prevent the atmospheric emission 3,840 tonnes of CO2 per year.

In response to this announcement, José Elías Navarro, Chairman of Audax Renovables, said that “the fulfilment of our strategic plan involves developing our current portfolio, yet also taking advantage of opportunities such as this one, which allows us to incorporate a ready-to-build project that we will start between January and February 2022. We remain on the lookout for opportunities to purchase other photovoltaic projects or portfolios that will allow us to speed up the incorporation of new installed capacity”.

As at 30 September, Audax produced 140 GW distributed between facilities in Spain, France and Poland, with Spain accounting for 67% of the total. At the beginning of 2021, the group added 1,968 MW to its portfolio in Spain, Italy and Portugal, which it plans to commission over the next five years. With regard to these projects, this year has seen the entry into operation of 15 MWp from the Cañamares and Carolinas I and II plants, 40 MWp from the Zarzuela I, II, II and IV projects in the province of Toledo, and Alberizas I, II, III and IV in the province of Guadalajara. And 14.5 MWp of the Los Arenales, El Toconal and Calañas projects are in the last phase of construction and will come on stream in the next few weeks.
